Abstract

CG TRACEN Cape May (TCCM) requires cyclical dredging every 35 years around Piers 3 and 4 to ensure sufficient water depth for Cutters and Patrol Boats that moor at Pier 4. The dredge material from each cycle is hydraulically pumped into a Confined Dredge Disposal Facility (CDF) located on the northeast section of the base. The current CDF is nearing capacity, so alternatives must be identified to sustain future dredging operations. Through extensive research and a site visit, several alternatives to address the dredge material storage challenge were identified. While many options were eliminated due to environmental concerns, three viable solutions were developed: offsite transportation of material, construction of a new CDF, and beneficial use of the dredge material.
