The CG plans to homeport four Fast Response Cutters at the Sector San Diego waterfront facilities and relocate CG STA San Diego to Ballast Point where the Patrol Boats are currently moored. This capstone project focuses on designing alternatives for a new station building that will accommodate an increase in the Personnel Allowance List for the station as it moves to Ballast Point.

The RoboBoat Capstone explores the development of an autonomous surface vessel (ASV) for search and rescue (SAR) missions. By utilizing 3D printing and low-cost control devices, the project enables the rapid production of modular, expendable vessels at a fraction of the cost of traditional assets. The platform integrates radio control, communication, positioning, and navigation components. These ASVs offer a scalable alternative to manned small boats, which are resource-intensive. This project highlights a path toward leveraging inexpensive technology to expand the Coast Guards operational tools.
